My research explores the functional organization and development of human visual scene processing. I am especially interested in understanding “how” human visual scene processing develops: does it depend only on exposure to the visual statistics of scene information, or is it also guided by the functional relevance of that visual information higher-level behavioral goals (i.e., navigation)? I address these questions using a variety of approaches, including fMRI in awake infants (and adults), online looking time methods, and ecological momentary assessment studies.
